Goal
"Organic waste or bio-waste are part of our daily lives – they result from preparing food to make a meal and from food leftovers -, and translate into about 40% of our trash can. These wastes can and should be reused to create compost and produce energy. Thus, since January 2021, within the scope of a POSEUR application, the Municipality of Setúbal has implemented the selective collection of organics door-to-door or through street containers, depending on the area of the municipality. The organic waste collected will be transformed into compost, contributing to combating climate change and achieving the goals recommended for the country in PERSU 2020+." "Members are offered two buckets – one with a capacity of 40L, to be placed outside the house and another of 10L, which will serve to directly place the waste generated when preparing meals and their leftovers. Personal Advantages: Fewer trips to the container; Greater convenience and proximity. Collective Advantages: Reduction of space occupied in landfills; Use of resources for the production of fertilizer and energy; Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change."
