School Energic Community [Comunidade Energética Escolar]
country
Portugal
Goal
In it's initial phase, this municipality-led initiative (Local Council for Climate Action of the Municipality of Loulé) aimed to decarbonize a public school community through the implementation of a photovoltaic station in it's grounds. This project also aims to, in the future, "sell" some of the energy that is produced to the electrical grid. In addition to the implementation of this technological solution, the school community has integrated decarbonization and clean energy within it's school ethos and curricula, through curricular school projects where students learn how to monitor and assess the impact of this station, as well as hands-on lessons that contribute to it's maintenance. This project also promotes the development of future decarbonization projects within the school, other local schools and the school community with an active participation of the students, parents, teachers, and local actors.
