Name
Manchester Carbon Budget
country
United Kingdom
Goal
"Manchester council declared a climate emergency three years ago and the city now has a target of becoming net zero carbon by no later than 2038. It fixed science-based carbon reduction targets, with the help of the Tyndall institute, policies and action plans, including governance and capacity building to enable to contribute to the successful implementation of the Paris Agreement and the EU’s strategic vision for carbon neutrality by 2050. In the framework of its roadmap, Manchester adopted a continuous, robust carbon budget consistent with the Paris Agreement by aiming at limiting global average temperature increase to well below 2°C. The idea behind Manchester’s carbon budget is that it sets out how much CO2 Manchester is permitted to emit in order to comply with the Paris Agreement. Manchester’s roadmap ncludes five-year carbon budgets, which will be announced alongside future implementation plans, which will be published every 5 years. The carbon budget will be subject to ongoing revisions and modifications as required in this process."
