Goal
"The sand dunes of Porto Santo are a unique ecosystem in the Madeira Archipelago, its uniqueness is the result of several geological origins and the beach is of great importance in the environmental, socio-cultural and economic context." Objectives: To increase the resilience of the Porto Santo dune ecosystem; Reconstruction of the disturbed dune cordon at the Ponta/Calheta site; Restoration of the dune ecosystem by planting native species and controlling invasive exotic species; Consolidation of the area behind the dunes by boosting traditional viticulture and recovering the typical "crochet" walls; Installation of a footbridge and community involvement lPrevent impacts of trampling by installing a footbridge; lIncrease awareness of the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems through the involvement of the local community; Replication and transfer of the Project's results.
