Name
GemeindePOWER project Hohentannen
country
Switzerland
Goal
The community has achieved ambitious goals within a short time. Today every 9th house has its own power supply on the roof by means of a photovoltaic system. Together they produce more than 1 million kWh per year. This production corresponds to approx. 33 % of the annual electricity consumption. The area of these cells corresponds to over 7,200 m2 or an entire football field. The heating system installed in 2009 in an old cowshed now supplies 42 houses with heat through underground pipelines. In the village of Hohentannen with a population of around 300 there are only 13 oil heaters left, all others heat with wood and very few with air heat pumps. More than 75% of the houses in the whole community use only the domestic raw material wood.
